Hello, reader. Thanks for stopping by. Here you'll find pop culture oozing out of the page, funky finds, criticisms, funny vids/pics, and just whatever I want to entertain you with.
Don't ask questions. Just take what I give you. Trust me, you'll like it.
I have a question for all you Oscar freaks out there: What's your all time fave outfit at the Oscars?
It could be Bjork's swan wrap, Faith Hill's birthday cake disaster, Gwen's boobage problem...I mean the possibilities are endless! Pre 1960 the fashion isn't really a problem. But once you get into the 70's on down...whew. (Cher really stands out in my mind as a s**t disturber.)
So this is the perfect time for me to tell you mine. I'm sure you're dying to know, right? Well, it just happens to be Lizzie Gardiner's Amex credit card dress from the 1995 Oscars. She won best costume design for Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
Apparently, all of the cards were in her name and expired, thank goodness. Sadly, in 1999, the dress was auctioned off for $12,650 with proceeds benefiting AIDS research. The dress that she wore at the Academy Awards was originally conceived for the Priscilla but the idea was scrapped when AmEx passed on the idea. However, they changed their mind when she later told them that she would wear the outfit to the ceremony. They were generous enough to supply here with 300 AmEx cards (254 to be exact) all with her name printed on them and all one number short as to make them all invalid. After she won Gardner was featured in magazine ads wearing the dress that said "You only need one in your wallet" and beneath in small print "Congratulations - and thank you".
